Every month, the Oh Yeah centre hosts a unique two part event known as Scratch My Music, a live performance and feedback session. The aim is to invite a band or artist who may be working on new material to perform 4-5 songs while sharing their thoughts on their music with the audience. They in turn are also free to offer opinion and feedback. The event has been recognised and is supported by the PRS Foundation For New Music.
The second part of the evening is dedicated to Demo Doctor which is run in association with Armstrong Learning, an organization that provides training to musicians who are seeking work in Northern Ireland. The idea is to invite artists to submit a demo, which is then reviewed by a panel of experts who will provide feedback and advice during the session. Again the audience members are invited to share their thoughts. The musicians very often use the opportunity to link up with like-minded folk who may be looking to collaborate. Armstrong are currently seeking demos, so please get in touch with Sharon.morgan@armstronglearning.co.uk.
In January ‘Scratch’ got off to a fine start with the poetic sounds of Connor Kelly and Victoria Geelan. The event returns in February with the hotly-tipped Aaron Shanley, and shall be compered by Amy McGarrigle, fellow singer-songwriter and BBC Radio Ulster contributor.
In March, fans of Lafaro will have a unique chance to see the band performing tracks acoustically from their long-anticipated debut album, which is set for release through Smalltown America Records on May 10th. The night will be driven by Stephen McCauley of Electric Mainline. Places are limited to 40 for this event, for more info contact Charlotte@ohyeahbelfast.com
In April, The Jane Bradfords who are set to release the follow up to their stunning self-titled debut, will be in the hot seat with Philip Taggart, a local radio reporter and bass player of Omagh’s finest, Colenso Parade.
All this is FREE and will be played out against the unique backdrop that is the Oh Yeah Music Exhibition.
Don’t forget: Loaf Cafe at Oh Yeah will be open for coffee.
Oh Yeah gratefully acknowledges the financial support of The PRS Foundation.
