Following on from the Afghan Women Solidarity Concert (taking place March 8th) to end oppression and violence against women and girls, Oh Yeah Music Centre, in association with Freemuse, are proud to host the Afghan Women in Music solidarity event on Monday 10th March at 7:30pm to celebrate International Women's Day.
Belfast was awarded UNESCO City of Music status three months after the Taliban took control of Kabul and banned music. Right now in Afghanistan girls are not allowed to go to school and women have no rights, not even the right to speak in public. Violence against women and girls is encouraged by the regime and child marriage is a growing industry.
This event will be an evening of conversation and music with guests Sonita Alizadeh, Zarifa Asghari, Eva Kearney, Amanda St John and Charlotte Dryden.
