Docs Ireland: Pavements

An examination of the iconic 90s indie band, “Pavements” appears to be just another music documentary, until it doesn’t.

A prismatic, narrative, scripted, documentary, musical, metatextual hybrid, the film intimately shows the band preparing for their sold-out 2022 reunion tour while simultaneously tracking the preparations for a musical based on their songs, a museum devoted to their history and a big-budget Hollywood biopic inspired by their saga as the most important band of a generation.

Equal parts Pavement band history, 2022 reunion rehearsal, career museum exhibit, ironic stage musical, 9-figure biopic and behind-the-scenes mockumentary, Pavements is, above all, a trailblazing docufiction without borders - Little White Lies.

Docs Ireland: David Keenan - Words on Canvas / Focla Ar Chanbhás

Four years after the breakthrough success of his debut album Beginner’s Guide to Bravery, Dundalk songwriter, musician, and composer, David Keenan, is at a crossroads. After touring extensively and building a reputation as one of Ireland’s leading live performers, he returns to the studio to record new music. “Anger is easy to portray, it’s the hurt that’s hard”, he says, as we explore David’s wordsmithing over the course of 500 days.

This is a portrait of one artist as a young man, which in turn is a portrait of every musical artist as they endeavour to stand out in a world of “algorithm and blues”, and remain authentically and powerfully true to themselves.

Ceithre bliana i ndiaidh dó a chéad albam Beginner’s Guide to Bravery a eisiúint, tá an t-amhránaí, ceoltóir agus cumadóir ó Dhún Dealgan, David Keenan, ag crosbhóthar. Tar éis dó camchuairt fhairsing a dhéanamh agus cáil a bhaint amach mar dhuine de na taibheoirí beo is spéisiúla in Éirinn, filleann sé anois ar an stiúideo chun ceol nua a thaifeadadh. “Is furasta fearg a léiriú, is é an ghortú atá deacair”, a deir sé, agus muid ag scagadh cumadóireacht David thar thréimhse 500 lá.

Portráid í seo d’ealaíontóir amháin agus é ina fhear óg, ach is portráid í seo de chuile ealaíontóir ceoil agus iad ar a ndícheall seasamh amach in aghaidh na halgartam, agus fanacht dílis dóibh féin agus dá ngairm ar bhealach cumhachtach.

Director Paddy Hayes and David Keenan will take part in a Q&A after the film.

Glow & Grow Summer Party
Aug
1

Glow & Grow Summer Party

Glow & Grow was created by two close friends, Leanne and Amanda, who met through work and quickly realised they shared more than just a job title — they shared a passion for women supporting women.

Bound by a belief that “together we rise”, they wanted to create spaces where women could connect, feel seen, and celebrate every version of themselves — whether they’re thriving, healing, starting over, or simply showing up.

Both big fans of live music, they’ve spent plenty of weekends trudging through festivals knee-deep in mud, soaking up the feel-good energy and freedom that only a crowd of like-minded souls can bring. So, organising uplifting events that fuse connection, music, and meaning felt like a natural calling.

Glow & Grow isn’t just about one night — it’s about finding your people, embracing joy, and normalising meeting your tribe at any point in life. No cliques, no expectations — just community, confidence, and a whole lot of sparkle.

Niamh Regan

Niamh Regan

With her stunning 2024 release Come As You Are, Niamh Regan has cemented herself as one of Ireland’s most distinctive songwriters. Nominated for the RTÉ Choice Prize for Irish Album of the Year, Come As You Are is a masterwork of intimate storytelling, rich arrangements, and unflinching emotional honesty. The album marks a bold evolution from her debut Hemet (2020), which garnered nominations for the RTÉ Folk Awards and the Choice Music Prize.

Come As You Are, produced by Tommy McLaughlin/Attica Studios,is an album full of vulnerability and unflinching introspection. As the title suggests, it invites listeners to embrace their true selves, confronting personal doubts, complicated relationships, and questions about life's direction. Each track is a delicate balance of delicate folk instrumentation and expansive soundscapes.

Niamh Regan first caught the attention of listeners with her 2020 debut Hemet, a strikingly collection that showcased her gift for penning folk-tinged songs with emotional depth and reflective sincerity. That album paved the way for a whirlwind of performances across Ireland, the UK, Australia, and beyond. Opening for artists such as CMAT, Villagers, John Grant, SOAK, Patrick Watson, James Vincent McMorror, and Sam Amidon, Regan honed her live performance chops and began to embrace the joy and catharsis of sharing her music with a wider audience.

With Come As You Are, Regan's vision grew. She sought to create a richer, more expansive sound, inspired by artists like Julia Jacklin, Caroline Rose, and Wilco. The result is an album that feels both intimate and cinematic.

Niamh Regan has always been a storyteller at heart, and Come As You Are proves that her voice, both literal and musical, is one that demands attention.

With Come As You Are now available worldwide and the RTÉ Choice Prize nomination in the mix, 2025 is poised to be a banner year for Niamh Regan. Niamh continues to evolve as an artist, and there’s much more to come.

The Tibbs
May
3

The Tibbs

The Tibbs originally took off in 2012 - fronted by the amazing Elsa Bekman – covering a lesser-trodden path, combining special soul classics with rare beat instrumentals. Their increasing popularity quickly led to a natural desire to expand their repertoire, beyond the confines of others’ inspirational endeavours towards their own soulful creations.

Produced by Paul Willemsen (Beans & Fatback, Lefties Soul Connection, Michelle David & The True-tones), the resulting EP Cleaned Out debuted in 2014. Later that year, the German funk and soul label TrampRecords released their debut single – Footprints In The Sand /Cleaned Out – delivering deserved international airplay for The Tibbs.

Two years later, famous Italian label Record Kicks released The Tibbs’ first LP, Takin’ Over. The first single from the album, Next Time/ The Story Goes – again produced by Paul Willemsen – received critical acclaim on radio stations throughout England, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Canada and Australia.

Though the talent was obvious much earlier, the release of Takin' Over delivered the band far richer rewards. Playing sold-out venues in both Milan and Frankfurt, The Tibbs’ profile rose further still with wonderful festival performances in Germany and Hungary, followed by a successful sold-out tour of Spain. Throughout this period, more new music was being created; the Lies 45 released in December 2017, and six months later, This Strange Effect was included on the celebratory Record Kicks 15th compilation album.

After some deliberation, in late 2018 Elsa decided to follow her heart and focus on a solo career. The Tibbs duly began their search for a truly worthy successor, bringing astonishing vocalist Roxanne Hartog and the band together for the first time. With a selection of incredible new tunes and an album (Another Shot Fired) drawing fantastic reviews, The Tibbs played sold-out shows in The Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Spain.

In January 2024 their latest album Keep It to Yourself came out, a true tour deforce that left listeners awe-inspired, foot-tapping and heart-soaring. On this 12-track album The Tibbs once again prove that the passionate sounds of the past can have a fresh and vibrant place in the music of today. Whether you're a devoted soul aficionado or new to the genre, just get ready for a musical journey that will revive your spirit!

The Tibbs are:
Roxanne Hartog - vocals
Henk Kemkes - guitar
Anton Titsing - Hammond / keys
Michael Willemsen - bass
Bas de Vries - drums
Berd Ruttenberg - baritone sax
Frank Stolwijk - tenor sax
Siebe Posthuma de Boer - trumpet

Brògeal

As part of their Spring 2025 tour, Brògeal will be stopping off at Oh Yeah on the 26th April.

Melting together indie rock and traditional celtic folk, Brògeal are a Falkirk-based five piece. Forming in Falkirk out of the ashes of high school bands, Brògeal came together over their love of Scottish and Irish folk music, punk and garage rock, adding banjo and mandolin to electric guitars, finding their own unique voice on the way. The last twelve months has seen the band emerge as one of the best live bands in the UK, touring with the likes of The Mary Wallopers, Spector and The Lathums.

“My grandparents used to tell me stories about the ancient days, when the clans ran Scotland and there were wars every other week new friends, new enemies and all that carry on. There was a group of mercenaries with no permanent homes and no wives. They only followed the money, be it through fighting, labouring or stealing. But during the winters when it was too cold to be outside they had to find other forms of income and shelter, so they’d go from town to town and play music for food,” says Aidan. “And drink!” Daniel interjects. “Aye. And they called themselves the Brògeal.”
