Huartan: Oíche an Nathair

  • Oh Yeah Music Centre 15-21 Gordon Street Belfast United Kingdom (map)

Oh Yeah Music Centre proudly presents an electrifying night of music as NI Music Prize Live Act winners Huartan take the stage for their only current headline show. Experience ‘Tradtronica’ (a fusion of the traditional and electronic music) as, on the eve of St. Patrick’s day, Huartan invite you to gather for Oíche an Nathair – the Night of the Snake.

Since 2023, Belfast-based 'tradtronica' band Huartan has been breathing new life into ancient words and melodies. This dynamic ensemble consists of three Irish traditional musicians: Múlú, Catriona Ní Ghribín, and Stiofán Ó Luachrain, who also serves as the band’s producer. Their shared vision is to reintroduce contemporary audiences to the oral singing traditions, cultures, and native language of Ulster. The Huartan live act is sensual and otherworldly, featuring costumes and high-energy backing dancers that embody the presence of síogaí (fairies/shapeshifters). In a playful re-imagining and performative reclamation of pagan Ireland, Huartan's front women each channel an aspect of a duality– light and dark, life and death – and the tense relationship between them.

Huartan invite you to gather on this Oíche an Nathair (Night of the Snake) to celebrate in true pagan spirit. This special event rebels against the well-worn tale of St. Patrick driving the snakes from Ireland, instead embracing the ancient serpent symbolism of pre-Christian traditions. Expect a night of immersive sounds, ritualistic energy, and hypnotic beats as Huartan bring their signature Tradtronica fusion to the Oh Yeah Centre.

Fresh off their victory in the inaugural Hotpress Amhrán na Laoch Irish Language Song Competition, Huartan are set to perform their new single ‘Uiseog’, recorded with the support of this prestigious award and mixed by Grammy-winning Irish producer Ruaidhrí Cushnan.

Winners of the 2024 Best Live Act 2024 Gradaim Nós 'Newcomer of the Year' award (Gradaim Rónáin), Huartan continue to make waves in the Irish music scene with their boundary-pushing sound and spellbinding performances.

This will be an unmissable night of wild celebration. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their pagan finery and slither into the witching hours with Huartan’s powerful and evocative sound.
